Is Galt Credit legitimate?
It is a licensed lender: a direct lender in Missouri, Wisconsin and Utah, and a Credit Access Business licensed by the Texas OCCC in Texas, and a member of the Online Lenders Alliance. Legitimate does not mean cheap — the published APR is near 598%. Read reviews for process (funding speed, service, whether the numbers matched) and read the fee schedule for price.

Car repair, funded the next business day
Transmission went out on a Tuesday and I had no way to get to work. Applied on my phone in the parking lot at lunch, got the decision back the same afternoon, and the deposit hit my account Wednesday morning. Everything I was going to owe was on the screen before I signed anything, which is not how the last place I used did it.

Approved on my income, not my score
My score is in the low 500s after a rough two years, so I expected another decline. They looked at my paychecks and my bank account instead. The soft check they run really did not show up on my credit report — I pulled it after to make sure.

Five minutes, no faxing, no runaround
I have had lenders ask me to fax pay stubs to a number that did not work. Here I linked my bank, e-signed, and that was the whole thing. Took about five minutes on my lunch break and I had an answer before I got back to the floor.

Fixed payments beat one lump sum
I used a two-week loan once and could not pay the whole thing back on payday, so I rolled it and it snowballed. Splitting this one across set payments that line up with when I get paid is the only reason I could actually finish it off.

Expensive — but they told me so up front
Four stars because this is not cheap credit and nobody should pretend it is. What I will say is that the cost was printed in front of me before I signed, and when my hours got cut in February a real person on the phone moved my due date instead of just running the draft and hitting me with fees.

Paid it off early and the rest came off
Got a bonus two months in and paid the balance off. They only charged the interest that had built up to that day — no penalty, no arguing about it on the phone. Second time using them and the process was the same both times.

How to read reviews of a lender like this one
Reviews of small-dollar lenders skew positive for a structural reason: people who were approved and
funded quickly are far more likely to write something than people who were declined, and a five-star
review usually reflects speed and service rather than price. Almost nobody rates a loan on what it cost
them six months later.
So read them for process, not for value. Was the money there when the lender said it would be? Did the
numbers on the disclosure page match what was advertised? Did a person answer the phone when a payment was
going to be short? Those are the things borrower reviews are actually good evidence for, and they are the
things that go wrong at bad lenders.
For price, ignore reviews entirely and read the published
fee schedule. The APR near 598% is not a matter of opinion.
What the four-star review is doing here
It is the most useful one on the page. It says the loan was expensive, that the cost was disclosed before
signing, and that a real person moved a due date when hours got cut. That is a fair description of what
this product is at its best: costly credit, honestly presented, competently serviced. A page of nothing
but five stars would tell you less.
