How do I work out what a loan will cost?
Multiply the payment by the number of payments to get the total of payments, then subtract the amount borrowed to get the cost of credit. The calculator below does it for you from an amount, a term and how often you are paid, using the cost structure in the lender’s published Texas fee schedule at roughly 598% APR.

What this calculator is doing
The estimate is built from the cost structure Galt Credit publishes in its Texas fee schedule, where the annual percentage rate on every worked example sits at approximately 598%. That figure combines third-party lender interest of no more than 10% per annum with Credit Access Business fees. The model is fitted to the lender’s published five-monthly and twelve-bi-weekly examples, so it should land close on ordinary amounts and schedules.
It is an estimate and nothing more. Your actual APR, payment and total come from your loan agreement, and they depend on your state, the amount, your pay frequency, your qualifications and your repayment history. Rates and fees vary by state. In Missouri, Wisconsin and Utah, where Galt Credit is the direct lender, there is no CAB fee component and the pricing is set differently.
Three things worth noticing in the output
The total of payments is the number that matters
A payment figure on its own tells you whether you can afford the month. The total of payments tells you what the loan costs. On small-dollar credit, the gap between the two is where people get surprised.
More payments means more cost
Stretching the same amount over ten months instead of four lowers each payment and raises the total. The right answer is the shortest schedule whose payment you are confident of meeting every time — not the shortest schedule available, because a missed payment adds a fee and can be reported.
Pay frequency changes the arithmetic
The number of payments is set by how often your employer pays you. Weekly payers finish a four-month loan in seventeen or eighteen payments; monthly payers finish it in four. Each smaller payment is easier to absorb, and the total differs as a result.
Before you apply anywhere: ask the biller about a payment plan, check whether a credit union will lend to you at 28% APR or less, and see whether your employer offers a hardship advance. Each of those beats this loan on price, and each is free to ask about.
Reading a real disclosure
When an offer appears, five figures matter. The annual percentage rate lets you compare this against any other credit. The finance charge is the dollar cost of borrowing. The amount financed is what actually reaches your account. The payment amount and number of payments tell you what leaves the account and for how long. The total of payments is all of it added up. If any of the five is missing, do not sign.

More dots is better on every column, including cost — five dots means cheaper. A bank or credit union wins on price and will keep winning if your credit lets you qualify.
