Bad credit

Installment loans when your credit is bad.

A low score does not end the application. Income and bank activity carry most of the weight, and the check that runs is a soft one. Approval is still not guaranteed.

Can I get an installment loan with bad credit?

Yes, applications from people with poor credit are considered. The decision leans on verifiable income and bank account activity rather than on a score, and the check that runs is a soft inquiry that does not affect your credit. Approval is still not guaranteed, and the loan is expensive — roughly 598% APR on published examples.

What “bad credit considered” means here

It means the credit score is one input rather than the gate. Galt Credit runs a soft credit check and pairs it with instant bank verification, and the decision leans on what the bank account shows: whether income arrives on a predictable rhythm, whether the balance survives between deposits, and whether existing debits already take most of what comes in.

That approach exists because a score describes the past and a bank account describes the present. Someone whose file was wrecked by a redundancy two years ago may now be earning steadily; the score has not caught up. Underwriting on income and banking picks that up where a score-only model would not.

It does not mean approval is automatic, and it does not mean the score is ignored. It means a 520 is not, by itself, the end of the conversation.

The soft check, precisely

A soft inquiry is a credit check that does not affect your credit score and is not shown to other lenders as an application marker. Hard inquiries, the kind a mortgage or car loan triggers, can shave points and stay visible for two years. This is the other kind. You can find out what you qualify for and walk away, and your file will look exactly as it did beforehand.

This is worth using deliberately. Because checking costs nothing in score terms, there is no reason to guess at your options or to accept the first offer that appears.

No lender offers a genuine “no credit check” loan. The phrase is a marketing tell. Some form of identity, income or credit verification always happens, and a site promising otherwise is usually collecting your data rather than lending money. The same goes for “guaranteed approval”.

What actually gets checked

Income

Amount matters less than regularity. Three months with the same employer is the stated minimum, and the verification is looking for deposits that arrive on a rhythm it can recognise. Irregular self-employment income is harder to verify, not because it is worth less but because the pattern is less legible.

Your checking account

Frequent overdrafts, a balance that sits at zero between deposits, or existing loan debits consuming most of each paycheck all count against an application — not as a judgement, but because they show that another fixed payment is unlikely to clear.

Existing obligations

If two or three other small-dollar loans are already drawing from the same account, an additional one is more likely to fail than to help. A decline in that situation is the system working.

Why the cost is what it is

Lending small amounts to borrowers whose files show risk, without collateral, is expensive to do. The cost of originating, verifying and servicing a $500 loan is not much lower than for a $5,000 loan, but it is recovered from a far smaller principal over a far shorter period. That arithmetic is what produces an APR near 598%, and no framing makes it a good deal in absolute terms.

What it can be is the least bad option available in a particular week — cheaper than a bounced rent cheque and an eviction filing, cheaper than a disconnection and reconnection deposit, cheaper than losing the car you drive to work. Those are real comparisons and they are the honest case for this product. They are also the only case for it.

Cheaper places to look first

Before applying anywhere, work through these. Each one is free to ask about and any of them beats this loan on price.

  • The biller. Utilities, hospitals and landlords routinely run payment plans, often interest-free, and they are rarely advertised. You have to ask.
  • A credit union. Many offer payday alternative loans capped at 28% APR to members, and membership is often open to anyone in a county or an employer group.
  • Your employer. Hardship advances and earned-wage access programmes exist at more employers than people expect.
  • Local assistance. Dialling 211 in the United States connects you to utility assistance, rent help and food programmes in your area.
  • A nonprofit credit counsellor. Free advice, and the right call if this is the third shortfall in three months.

If you are declined

A decline is not permanent and it is not a verdict on you. Under federal law you are entitled to know the principal reasons, so ask for them. Usually it is one of three things: income that could not be verified, an account showing recent overdrafts, or existing debt already committed against the same paycheck. Each is addressable over a few months, and a fresh application after that is assessed on the newer picture.

What does not help is applying to six lenders the same afternoon. It does not improve the odds, and with lenders who use hard inquiries it makes the file worse.
