Our target

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Financial information is exactly the kind of content that people rely on assistive technology to read, so this is treated as a requirement rather than an aspiration.

What is in place

  • Colour contrast. Every text and background combination on the site is checked programmatically against the 4.5:1 ratio for body text and 3:1 for large text.
  • Keyboard access. Every interactive element — navigation, dropdowns, the calculator, tabs, the eligibility checklist and the mobile menu — can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. Focus is always visible.
  • Skip link. A skip-to-content link is the first focusable item on every page.
  • Structure. One H1 per page, headings in order, landmark regions, and breadcrumbs.
  • Images. Every image carries alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Live regions. Calculator and eligibility results are announced when they change.
  • Reduced motion. If your system requests reduced motion, all animation is switched off and content is shown in its final state.
  • No JavaScript required to read. With scripts disabled, every page still renders its full content. Interactive tools stop working; the information does not disappear.
  • Zoom and reflow. The layout reflows to 320px without horizontal scrolling.

Known limitations

The loan application form is supplied by a third-party provider and embedded on the apply page. Its markup is outside our control, and we cannot guarantee it meets the same standard as the rest of the site. If you hit a barrier in the form, call the lender on 1-800-402-8845 and apply by phone — you should not have to fight an interface to borrow money.

Data tables comparing loan options scroll horizontally on narrow screens. Tables are marked up with proper row and column headers so a screen reader can navigate them by cell.

Telling us about a problem

If something on this site is unusable for you, we want to hear about it, and we will treat it as a bug rather than a suggestion. Use the contact details on the about page, and include the page address and what went wrong if you can.

Assistive technology and your rights

Federal law gives you rights around accessible communication with financial institutions. If a lender cannot serve you in an accessible way, the relevant state regulator on the states page takes complaints, as does the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
